Starting in the cart and guest service operation at Bethesda Country Club just outside of Washington DC, Chris has been in the golf business for over 20 years and has been a Class A PGA Golf Professional and a member of the PGA of America since 1998. Chris and his family have resided in Diamondhead since 1999. A graduate of the PGA’s Professional Golf Management program at Mississippi State University, Chris was most recently employed at the Bridges Golf Club in Bay St. Louis, MS where he was Director of Golf for the past 10 years. In addition to Bethesda Country Club and The Bridges Golf Club, Chris also worked at Hattiesburg Country Club, MS State University Golf Club, and Windance Golf Club.  2016 recipient of the Gulf States PGA Youth Player Development Award.
Maury Hodgens 1 Maury Hodgens – Assistant Professional
Maury learned the golf business from his Club Professional dad. They owned J & M Tours, a tour operator that put together golf packages from the FL Panhandle to Biloxi, Jacksonville and Atlantic City. Working for Edwin Watts golf shops in Tallahassee, Memphis and Ft. Walton Beach gave him great insight of the retail side of golf. Maury was one of the opening Golf Professionals for Grand Bear Golf Course and has also worked for Seminole Golf Course in Tallahassee, FL and Gadsden Country Club in Quincy, FL. He also worked in the casino industry for 9 years. His well-rounded golf and customer service background makes Maury a great addition to the Diamondhead Country Club.
Gregg Altese-s Gregg Altese – Assistant Professional
A Gulf Coast native, Gregg is a graduate of Mississippi State University. After many years in the corporate world, Gregg took his love for the game of golf to another level and joined the PGA as an apprentice in 2000. Prior to joining Diamondhead in 2007, he was the Assistant Professional at The Oaks in Pass Christian from 1999-2005. He enjoys the opportunity to promote the life event called Golf.

 

Golf Academy Staff

Hoppy Smith – Director of Training and Player Development
A native of MS, Hoppy became a professional in 1993. He served his apprenticeship under Kenny Hughes, PGA at the Broadwater Sun Course from 1993 – 1996. On August 1, 1996, he was elected to the PGA of America and joined the Diamondhead Country Club as Head Golf Professional in December 1996 until opening The Golf Academy of Diamondhead in December 2012. During this time, he was awarded 1999 Regional Club Fitter of the Year by Ping; voted Gulf Coast Teacher of the Year by his peers in 2004. While being a certified Mizuno Club Fitter, he is also holding a certification with Eyeline Golf and is a SeeMore Certified Instructor. In 2008 he achieved a G.S.E.B. (Golf Stroke Engineering Bachelors) with the Golfing Machine and is now working towards his Masters, Hoppy has been nominated Gulf States PGA Teacher of the Year from 2011 to 2015.   Recipient of the 2016 Gulf States PGA Teacher of the Year Award. Laura McCann – Golf Professional
Laura has resided in Diamondhead, MS since 1990 where she was a member of Diamondhead Country Club through her high school and college years. She is an accomplished player and has over 10 years teaching experience. Laura played college golf at Louisiana State University and graduated with a degree in Speech Communications in 1998. After graduating, Laura spent the next four years as a touring professional on the SBC Futures Golf Tour. One of the highlights of Laura’s golfing career is playing in the 1995 Ladies U.S. Women’s Open. Before joining the Diamondhead Golf staff Laura has worked as an Assistant Golf Professional at Great Southern Golf Club and Head Golf Professional at The Oaks Golf Club. A native of Mobile, AL Jason is a U.S. Kids Certified Instructor and is a National Registry of Professional Golf Instructors Certified Professional Golf Instructor. Jason graduated from the University of So. AL with a B.A. in Communications and will put that experience to work as he develops the Junior Golf program for Diamondhead. He has been Chairman of Sponsor Relations and Chairman of Junior Golf Clinics for the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic Champions Tour and is a SeeMore Putter Institute Certified Putting Instructor. For over 25 years, I have taken lessons with regional Class A PGA professionals such as Hoppy Smith, V.J. Trolio, Jack O’Neil and James Leitz which exposed me to many different swing theories. After studying the works of renowned sports psychologists, mental golf coaches and scientists such as Harvey Penick, Bob Rotella, Lynn Marriott, Pia Nilsson and Dr. Richard Coop. I became fascinated with the importance of the mental implications of the game of golf. The “Mind Control Golf” course is now available at the Diamondhead Golf Academy. Jimmy Headrick joined the Academy of Golf at Diamondhead in November 2015. Headrick is a 37 year Class A Member of the PGA of America. He is the most decorated PGA Professional in the history of the Gulf States PGA in his work of growing and developing junior golf. Along with his instruction duties at the Academy, he is the U.S. Kids Golf Gulf Coast Tour Tournament Director.

Theo Reshew
Theo Reshew has a degree in Professional Golf Management and has been teaching golf for 26 years. He is an Authorized Instructor in The Golfing Machine, Class A Member of the PGA, and certified Eye Line Golf instructor. The knowledge accumulated from years as a member of the PGA and being an A.I. with The Golfing Machine has given Theo the ability to help people with all facets of the golf swing. All age groups can benefit from the swing techniques taught. Theo specializes in swing motion which includes: tempo, weight shift, and body rotation. These three areas of the golf swing can be utilized by every type of golfer, no matter what age or skill level, to generate more club head speed and better contact. There are two price options: 1. Steven joins the Diamondhead team from the Bridges Golf Course at Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis, MS. Steven’s prior experience includes Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco, Texas, Walden on Lake Conroe and Woodlands Country Club in Montgomery, Texas and Northwood Club in Dallas, Texas. Steven earned a B.S. Double Major in Agronomy and Entomology from Texas A & M.
