DIAMONDHEAD COUNTRY CLUB TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

We would like to pass along some tournament helpful hints and mandatory guidelines for a successful golf outing at the Diamondhead Golf Courses.  We ask that you and your guests honor our requests.

POPULAR FORMATS

  • The Scramble is the most popular format for group tournaments because teamwork is encouraged.  Each foursome will consist of an A, B, C & D player.  In putting together the teams, you will need to know the golfing ability of the players.  In a scramble, each team member tees off, but the team plays the second shots from where the best drive landed.  Play continues in this format until the ball is holed out.  A scramble builds camaraderie, saves embarrassment over poor shots, and everyone makes a contribution.

  • Best ball is played with two, three or four players on a team.  Each golfer plays their own ball on each hole, but only the lowest score is recorded as the team score.  This can be a fun format for groups of 40-50 players and will generally take longer to play 18 holes than using the scramble format.

  • Texas Scramble involves at least 4 drives of each member of the team being used during the course of the round.  At least 4 drives hit by Player A, four by Player B and so on.  A Texas Scramble eliminates a great drivers’ tee shot used on every hole.

  • Lone Ranger is also referred to as Money Ball, Yellow Ball or Pink Ball & puts the responsibility on one player per team per hole to come through with a good score.  Players in a group of four rotate as the Lone Ranger on each hole. The score of the designated Lone Ranger is combined with the low score of the other three team members for the team score.

STARTS

Either of the Diamondhead courses can accommodate tournaments of up to 144 players with an 8:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. Shotgun Start (foursomes starting on different holes at the same time).  Groups requesting start times other than these standard times should contact the Head Professional, Hoppy Smith or Sales & Marketing, Nancy Perkins.

To be considered an outing, the minimum number of players is 20 & only the regular start (off #1 tee) can be utilized without negotiation.

The minimum number of players for a shotgun start is 40.  The use of the shotgun start requires total payment for the number agreed upon, regardless of the actual number showing to play.  Fewer players may be accommodated through Modified Shotgun Starts negotiated with the Head Professional or Sales & Marketing.

Certain times of the year require split tees.  Two Way Starts (tee times on both the 1st & 10th tees) can be utilized to send medium size groups off within the regular tee times, allowing a more timely completion of the round.

The Head Professional or Sales & Marketing will do all possible to accommodate your group requests to insure an enjoyable experience by all your golfers.

CONTESTS

  • Hole in One Contest

  • Longest Drive

  • Straightest Drive

 FUNDRAISING ON THE COURSE

  • Sell Mulligans.  This will allow players to take an additional shot anywhere they choose.  Sell Mulligans for $3.00 - $10.00.

  • Gamble Hole.  Ask our PGA Professional Hoppy Smith, to pick a medium length par three.  Put a ten foot circle around the hole and allow players to bet up to $20.00.  If their ball comes to rest in the circle, they win double their bet.  If their ball comes to rest anywhere on the green, they get their money back.  If they miss the green all together you keep the money.  This hole must have spotters supplied by the group to work the contest and observe the results.

  • Professional Drive.  Make arrangements for one of the golf professionals to hit a tee shot for $5.00 - $10.00 per player on a Par 4 or 5 hole.
